Powering SoCs and FPGAs with AnDAPT WebAmP R.D.

The global FPGA market is valued at $8 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $15.5 billion by 2027. While FPGA users will always want a power solution that costs very little and takes no space, powering FPGAs is a challenge as geometries shrink, voltages get lowered, currents higher and rail numbers go up.

To address issues related to powering FPGAs, AnDAPT has introduced WebAmP R.D. (Reference Designs), which is an application software to instantaneously deliver power solutions for FPGAs. This software produces a customized PMIC in a few minutes. AnDAPT is the first company to introduce this type of innovation for powering FPGAs. Introducing WebAmP R.D.

AnDAPT has developed power products for different SoCs/FPGA families for AMD-Xilinx, Intel-Altera and Microchip FPGAs. The power solutions cover SKUs from cost-optimized to high-performance use cases belonging to the aforementioned families. Each power solution can include several AnDAPT power products. WebAmP R.D. estimates the PCB area required by each IC as well as all the other discrete components in the Bill of Materials, as shown in figure 1. Each IC consists of different power components such as synchronous bucks, asynchronous bucks, low-dropout regulators (LDO), single-phase and two-phase DrMOS controllers, etc… The datasheets are provided for an in-depth understanding of the features of the power components such as maximum voltage and current, load regulation, efficiency, etc. This helps the customers to get the perfect customized PMIC, which is discussed in the next paragraph.

WebAmP R.D. allows users some customization, which is one of the most important features of this software. Whether it is voltage, current or rail sequencing, some aspects of the design always need to be tailored to the customer’s requirements. Also, there is a provision to disable unused rails if necessary. The customized design can be downloaded by clicking on the link “Adjust with new settings”, which is at the top left corner of the WebAmp RD page, as illustrated in figure 1.

In figure 2, the downloaded folder (default design or customized design) shows all the required files such as design files, reference schematics, datasheets, BoM, layout guides, etc. Finally, AnDAPT’s Adaptive Multi-Rail Power Platform (AmP) PMICs can be programmed with the help of programming files that come with the design folder.

All that is left to do is to program your IC using the AmpLink tab in the browser. There is a programming tool called AmpLink that can be used to customize a Power Management IC (PMIC) and the link for this tool is provided on the WebAmP R.D. page, as illustrated in figure 1.

We understand that powering SoCs and FPGAs is in flux and becoming more complex, and we address these changes by delivering the simplest tool to solve your power management problems.
